    The swing

The city lights were bright at night. The tired man held the bottle of wine and walked to the fence on the top of the tall building and sat down. He took a sip of wine, sighed, smashed the bottle beside him, and then jumped down.

On a hot night, the stars outside the window flickered in the endless darkness, and the clock in the room ticked, making an urging sound. A boy lay on the table, turning the pen unconsciously. His name was Lucas. The summer vacation was almost over, and he still hadn't done anything. He was sitting at the desk, facing a pile of homework, but he had no idea. He sighed and thought to himself that he might as well go out for some fresh air.

"Anyway, there's still a lot of time, it won't be too late to do it tomorrow." he said to himself.

So he sneaked out of the house and ran to a small park nearby. The park at night was quiet and mysterious, with only the moonlight casting a faint silver glow. Lucas sat on the swing, swinging back and forth, and suddenly, he felt something was wrong.

"You are always like this, Lucas, you are always like this, whether you were a kid or now"

A deep voice came from behind. Lucas was startled and turned around to see a middle-aged man who looked very haggard and drunk sitting on the swing next to him. He had dark circles under his eyes like a panda, a fat beer belly, a nearly bald head and a face full of wrinkles

"Who are you?" Lucas asked warily.

"I am you, the grown-up you." The man answered with a bit of helplessness in his voice.

Lucas shrugged his eyebrows, the strange uncle, "You said you are me, do you have any evidence?" He stopped the swing and asked with his head tilted

The uncle smiled: "There is a comic book in your drawer, you always peek while studying, you will definitely waste time on the way to school, and then enter the classroom on time, you will never touch your homework until the last day, your knees have been hurting, but you don't tell your parents because you think it's troublesome, and you also"

"Stop, stop, I believe you," Lucas saw that his future self was going to continue and interrupted him quickly, "Why can you come back?"

I have a superpower that I awakened when I was 20 years old. I can go back to any time point in my past and tell my parents How should I change myself when I go there? The uncle smiled and said with some pride, then his tone lowered again, "But this may be the last time I use it."
Lucas was stunned, half believing and half doubting: "Then why did you come to me?"
"Let me tell you," the adult Lucas said in a heavy tone, "as long as you change some things, you can change your future."
After thinking for a while, he asked, "Will I be very powerful in the future? Will I become a big boss in Silicon Valley?"
The adult was silent for a while and whispered, "Useless."
    Lucas' heart sank suddenly: "What?"
    He repeated: "You are useless"
Why?" Lucas stood up, "You are not kidding, are you?"
"Because no matter how I go back to the past, I can't change it successfully." Adult Lucas smiled bitterly, "You always fish for three days and dry the net for two days, and you can't stick to it. I told you not to smoke, and I still got pneumonia because of long-term smoking when I returned to the future. I told you to get up early every day, and I was still fired for being late to the company for a long time when I returned to the future. Even if I told you the answers to the exam and asked you to cheat, you didn't even want to be asked a question, just like now, "You should be doing homework, right?" The uncle lit a cigarette tiredly. "What about this time?" Lucas asked nervously, "How did you come back?" A trace of sadness flashed in the eyes of adult Lucas: "This is the last ability used in the process of jumping off the building." Lucas took a step back in shock: "Why do you do this?" "Because I feel that since I must have failed in the past, I hope that the other party will be a little more relaxed." Adult Lucas said, turning around and leaving, "Goodbye, I hope you can enjoy these times." "Wait a minute!" Lucas shouted loudly, "I don't want you to die, I will change! "
Adult Lucas stopped and looked back at him: "Really? Are you willing to work hard to change?"
"I won't become like that!" Lucas retorted with anger in his tone.
"But that's the fact." "Adult" Lucas said helplessly, "I have tried to change countless times, but failed. "
"That's you! Not me!" Lucas waved his arms excitedly, "I will be different from you!"
"Do you really think change is so easy?" "Adult" Lucas' voice has a deep fatigue, "Every time I go back to the past, I tell myself to work hard, but I give up in the end."
"Lucas shook his head stubbornly: "That's because you don't really want to change."
"Really?" "Adult" Lucas smiled bitterly, "How many times have you vowed to be serious, but found excuses to give up the next day? "
"That's because-" Lucas was speechless, knowing that what his future adult self said was not completely unreasonable, but he still didn't want to admit it.
"I know what you think," sighed Lucas, "You think there's always time tomorrow, and you think opportunities will never disappear." "But..." Lucas' voice gradually lowered, and he fell into deep thought. "No buts." Lucas interrupted him, "If you don't change from now on, everything will just repeat itself." He paused, smiled bitterly, and said, "Ah, I've heard this conversation more than once, haha, "Listen," sighed Lucas, "I know you're confident now, but this confidence won't last long." "Why can't you trust me once?" Lucas' voice choked a little. "Because I know that feeling too well," Lucas said, "Every time I start, there's a period of passion, but it's always eaten away by laziness and procrastination." Lucas clenched his fists hard: "I won't give up this time!" Lucas smiled bitterly and shook his head: "Maybe, but I don't expect it anymore. I always hope for something different, but I'm always disappointed in the end." "Are you just giving up?" Lucas asked, with a hint of despair in his voice. "Yes, I gave up." Adult Lucas' voice was low, "Because no matter how hard I tried, the result didn't change." After saying that, adult Lucas turned around and walked into the depths of the night in disappointment. His figure gradually disappeared, leaving the boy standing alone in the park, with complex emotions rolling in his heart. 'The night in the park gradually deepened, andLucas's mood became heavy with the departure of adult Lucas. That kind of deep despair surged into his heart, as if all efforts were in vain. He stood in the empty park, staring at the disappearing figure of adult Li Ming, and the despair in his heart almost swallowed him. "Maybe he is right, I will really fail..." He whispered to himself, with tears in his eyes
Just when he was about to fall into self-doubt, a stubborn emotion suddenly ignited in his heart. He clenched his fists fiercely, and the fire in his heart gradually burned. The sentence rang in his heart: "I must change!" He turned abruptly and ran quickly in the direction of home. The determination in his heart made him act quickly, and there was only one thought in his mind: go back and correct his mistakes. Why, why, just because you are my future self, you must deny my determination! I will definitely save you, absolutely!!! He sat at the desk, sat at the desk, took a deep breath, and picked up the pen he had dropped.
The future Lucas slowly returned to his own timeline, and the world around him gradually became clear from the night. His figure appeared on the empty street again, and the scene in front of him made him feel both strange and familiar. He stood in the bustling area of Wall Street, surrounded by high-rise buildings, flashing neon lights, and busy traffic.
He looked up at a towering building, and his heart was filled with strange feelings. He walked into the building, walked through the luxurious lobby, and took the elevator directly to the top floor. As the elevator door opened, he walked into a spacious and modern office, which was decorated comfortably and high-end. The desk was full of documents and electronic equipment, and the window on one side overlooked the bustling scene of Wall Street.
At this time, the door of the office was pushed open, and he saw a familiar figure-it was himself, who had become mature and stable, wearing a neat suit, and was concentrating on processing documents. "I... succeeded?" Future Lucas muttered to himself, with incredible excitement in his voice.
He walked to his desk and saw that he was handling the work skillfully, with a focused and confident expression. Suddenly, his mobile phone rang with a reminder, and the screen showed "Lucas, an important transaction was completed today. Well done!"
"Is this my life now?" Future Lucas murmured, with a smile on his face. This smile was filled with satisfaction, pride, and gratitude for the past.
He looked at himself and saw his past self standing at his desk, and a strong emotion surged in his heart. He recalled that difficult time, how he desperately faced his future self in the park at night, and how he found the power to change deep in his heart.
"I really did it." Future Lucas whispered, tears flashing in his eyes. Even in the prosperity of Wall Street, he could still feel the joy and satisfaction of struggling out of despair.
He sat at his desk, gently picked up a blank piece of paper, and wrote a few words on it: "Thank you, past self." Although these words were simple, they contained his deep gratitude for his past self's efforts to change.
“Perhaps, it is never too late to change everything, because every decision can be the starting point of the future. Don’t complain. If you have to choose a time to change, then how about changing from now on?”
